Dasavathaaram - Meaning of 10 Avatars

One thing we had noticed is why people didn't get the real subtext and
reason for the various roles and hence the title.
If you knew the real dasavatharams of Lord Vishnu and their characters
you can appreciate the script more.

Let me explain, starting with the best adapted role:

1. Krishna avatar - Vincent Poovaraghavan
Lord krishna is actually a dalit, he is dark-skinned [shyamalam]. He
saved draupadi when she was being violated and he was the actual
diplomat in mahabharatham. Lord krishna dies of an arrow striking his
lower leg. Now look at how vincent was introduced.. he appears when
asin is about to be molested and he saves her like draupadi. Vincent
is the dalit diplomat, fights for land issue [soil issue to be exact]
and dies from the metal rod striking his leg. Oh even five of
vincent's men are drugged at P. Vasu's.. sounds familiar???

2. Balarama avatar - Balarama naidu
This is an easy given. as the name suggests and the role personifies
you can easily get it.

3. Mathsya avatar - Ranagaraja nambi
nambi is thrown into water in an act of trying to save lord from being
thrown into sea, though vainly. what more clue do you want?

4. Varaha avatar - Krishnaveni paatti
During the mukunda song, krishnaveni paatti does varaha avatar in the
shadow puppetry. The frame freezes on it for a second. there is the
clue. Moreover, in varaha avatar lord actually hides earth so as to
protect life forms. Here too krishnaveni hides the germs - life form
inside the statue so as to protect.

5. Vamana avatar - Kalifulla khan
remember in vamana avatar, lord vishnu takes the vishvaroopa, that is
the giant form! Hence the giant kalifulla here symbolises vamana
avatar.

6. Parasurama avatar - Christian Fletcher
Parasurama is actually on an angry killing spree and killed 21
generations of the particular kshatriya vamsa. Hence the real
KILLER... Guess what thats what our Fletcher is! He comes around with
the gun [modern upgrade for axe] and kills everyone around. I have to
check if he kills 21 people though. :-D

7. Narasimha avatar - Shingen Narahashi
first of all the name itself is a play on the words singam [means lion
in tamil] and narasimha [the avatar being symbolised]. Lord Narasimha
manifests himelf to kill the bad guy and he also teaches prahaladha.
In the movie, he shows up to kill the killer fletcher! and is also a
teacher.. Lord Narasimha had to kill the asura with bare hands and
hence the martial arts exponent here.. get it?

8. Rama avatar - Avatar Singh
Lord Rama stands for the one man one woman maxim, kind of symbolising
true love.. Here Avatar portrays that spirit by saying that he loves
his woman more than anything and wants to live for her.

pl read here by selecting de following text

9. Kalki avatar - Govindaraj Ramasamy
As you know, the hero in kaliyug can be none other than the Kalki avatar!!!

10. Koorma avatar - Bush
This is the most loose adaptation I couldn't clearly comprehend. But
if you look at the real koorma avatar, the lord is the turtle/tortoise
that helps in stirring the ksheera sagara and bringing out the amruth.
This essentially creates war among the devas and asuras. Similarly
today
Bush facilitates war between you know whom... May be Kamal also
indicates that this avatar is a bit dumb like the tortoise...

Review

Star-casts: Kamal Haasan, Mohan Lal, Lakshmi, Tanuja Iyer, Ganesh Venkataram
Banner: Raj Kamal Productions, UTV Motion Pictures
Production: Kamal Haasan, Ronnie Screwvala
Direction: Chakri
Music: Shruthi Haasan

To be precise, much before watching the film ‘Unnai Pol Oruvan’, everyone would’ve got a definite doubt whether the remakeversion in Tamil will perform well. But, Kamal Haasan top-notches exceeding our expectations on every quotient that are splendidly delivered
The remake doesn’t differ in any way from the original version of ‘A Wednesday’. If the Neeraj Pandey had delivered a powerful theme with it, we’ve Kamal Haasan and his team rendering an overpowering attempt.
The film opens with Raghavan Maraar (Mohan Lal), city commissioner of police on his last day of service. He starts of revisiting an unforgettable day in his life, an unrecorded event that’s still unforgettable by those who were involved in it.
And then we’re taken back to that phenomenal day where a stranger (Kamal Haasan) makes a call to Maraar stating that he has planted bombs at various parts of the city. Assuming this to be a crank call, the city commissioner doesn’t take it seriously although he tries tracing the call. Instantaneously, the stranger reasserts about his serious venture that he has placed a bomb at a police station in Anna Saalai.
Well, now things are gonna be different not merely for city commissioner, but a TV reporter (Anuja Iyer), couple of young aggressive cops (Ganesh Venkataraman and other one), a computer hacker and the entire department of police.
Now, the stranger makes a strong demand that the department of police has to release 4 deadly criminals or else he would bump off the entire city.
But then, when his deals are accomplished, there’s something more shocking for everyone involved in this mission.
Needless to say, Mohan Lal deserves special mention for an extraordinary job. He just swings around with a blissful performance. Be it a tensed interaction with Kamal Haasan or a jovial take with the journalist: he’s awesome. Although, Kamal Haasan happens to be the lead protagonist, he showcases his best take simply in the climax. Ganesh Venkataraman does his part well as a frustrated cop while Tanuja Iyer as a journalist keeps us engrossed. Lakshmi is average on her show while rest of the cast-an-crew including the ones who played the role of criminals has done a great job.
There isn’t much particularly to appreciate about the background score of Shruthi Haasan as it could’ve been yet better. Cinematography by Manoj is prodigious and lighting has been perfectly mastered.
Dialogues by Era.Murugan are what it makes much best than the original version. All throughout the film, the dialogues are so touching and powerful that keeps winning with continuous applauses.
Finally, it’s worth mentioning that ‘Unnai Pol Oruvan’ is marvelous and of course best than the original version.
For sure, the film would make it big in box office with a long weekend of Ramzan Holiday.
Bottom - Line: Stupendously awesome
Verdict: Must Watch!!!

Kamal Haasan’s ‘Thalaivan Irukiran’ is ‘Unnai Pol Oruvan’

Maybe, the actor had a vivid discussion with his team mates and has drawn this conclusion. ‘Thalaivan Irukiran’ was something all about a one man show fightingagainst baddies. But now ‘Unnai Pol Oruvan’ seems to be quite attractive. Remake of A Wednesday is produced as a joint venture of UTV Productions and Kamal Haasan’s ‘Raj Kamal Productions’ in Tamil and Telugu.
The film will be completed in a 30-day schedule in both the versions. With Chakri directing the film, shooting had hit the floors yesterday in Ramoji Film City of Hyderabad. Don’t miss the exclusive trailer of ‘Unnai Pol Oruvan’ presented first on Kollywood Today

Believe It Or Not

Someone with no interesting work to do, did some research and composed
the following findings.

==============================
======================================
A MERE CO-INCIDENCE / BELIVE IT OR NOT - Kamal Hassan
==============================
======================================

1) In 1978, his tamil movie "Sivappu Rojakal" got released. He played
the role of a Psychopath killer . One year later, a guy called Psycho
Raman was caught for brutally murdering people

2) In 1988, kamal played the role of a unemployed youth in the movie
"Sathya". In 89-90's our country faced lot of problems due to
unemployment.

3) In 1992, his blockbuster movie "Devar Magan" got released. Its a
village based subject. There will be some scenes portraying communal
clashes. Exactly a year later in 1993, there were many communal
clashes in southern districts.

4) We all know in 1996 many people in our country was cheated by
finance companies. Our Kamal Hasan has clearly depicted this in his
movie "mahanadhi" which got released in 1994 itself.

5) In "heyram"(2000), there are some scenes relating to Hindu Muslim
clashes . We all know 2 years later, godhra(Gujarat riots) incident
happened.

6) He used a word called 'tsunami' in his movie "Anbesivam"(2003).The
word 'tsunami' was not known to many people before. In 2004, 'tsunami'
stuck the east coast of our country and many people lost their lives.

7) In his latest movie "Vettaiyadu Vilayadu "(2006) there are two
characters called ila&amudhan who played the roles of psychopath
killers. After 3 months of release of the movie, the noida
serial
killing came to light (moninder/sathish)

And to add another point to the seven below,
 8.He shows the outbreak of
a biological weapon(virus/vial) in Tamil nadu --Dasavatharam(2008)

God save TN

UPO: The change is complete

Unnaipol Oruvan going great guns in Chennai city; collects over 20 lakhs at a single Cineplex within four days of its release. These are really handsome figures, though not record breaking by any standards. There have been many movies over the past that have shown far better collections in their initial days at theaters. For example, Unnaipol Oruvan might not able to match the figures netted by Dasavatharam. But what makes these 20 lakhs special are that they have been earned by Unnaipol Oruvan, which was hardly considered a candidate for great success. Of course, we all had great expectations from the movie because it came from the stables of Rajkamal and had Ulaga Nayagan Kamal Haasan in the lead with Mohanlal for company. We knew that it would be a class offering with a deep impact, because many of us were aware of and had seen ‘A Wednesday’. But, like many other class offerings of the past, there was the fear that box office success might just elude this thoroughly deserving product.

This fear is not without reason. There have been many Kamal masterpieces that have been quite universally acknowledged as high quality cinema but failed to leave any impression at the box office. Think about Hey Ram, Anbe Sivam or any others that belong to this category. The thing about such films was that they seemed to make it to theaters only because they featured Kamal Haasan. In his absence, such stories and films would never have been made, leave alone finding theaters to release. It was as if

good cinema had its place in the hearts of Tamil audiences but not on the big screen for any long period. The big screen always belonged to true commercial entertainers which had all elements to regale our minds in around 3 hours.

Now, Unnaipol Oruvan perhaps marks the crescendo of change that has begun in the reception of films that are of the ‘other’ kind, driven by elements that are non-commercial. There has been the odd film over the years that has kept breaking predictions to achieve box office success, like Cheran or Bala products. But, they were far and few in between and could be counted only as exceptions rather than as the rule. 2008 seems to have changed things from that position. Now, a film that chooses to stick to an honest and story driven form of narration is far more likely to find acceptance a few years ago. Counting Subramaniapuram, Pasanga, Naadodigal, Vennila Kabaddi Kuzhu, all in the span of 12 months, we have to accept that a wave of change in audience’s taste has occurred.

But, many might not be happy with the examples cited above. Though these movies did eliminate a lot of commercialism like punch dialogues, item numbers and the like, they still definitely contained a lot that was conventionally commercial. For instance, the comedy track, violence that could often border on the brutality and songs. In that respect, they could never be called ‘pure’ cinema. That is why Unnaipol Oruvan is important. It hopefully completes the transition of the average Tamil audience to the discerning who can pick out the genuinely good products from the rest and give it the recognition when it is still in theaters, not long after.

Unnaipol Oruvan has neither a comedy track, nor any song, nor violence, no heroine, no romance. Its dialogues might pack a punch but they are not what we would call punch dialogues. The maker has been confident enough to not include a song even in the opening or closing credits. Perhaps the only commercial present in the entire movie is the presence of a huge star, Kamal Haasan, but he is also a synonym for quality cinema in our times. In spite of being so starkly unconventional and non-commercial, if Unnaipol Oruvan is doing a smashing round at the box office, it does mean that audiences have begun to broaden their horizons beyond just time pass entertainment. For the success of Unnaipol Oruvan, congrats to the makers and to the ‘new look Tamil audience’.

Kamal the UNIVERSAL STAR

Ulagamengilum unnai vendrida yaaru? Unnai petradhil perumai kolludhu Thamizh (nadu)! was the song on my lips as I left Sathyam cinemas after watching Unnaipol Oruvan. Kamal has set innumerable trends in Tamil Cinema and Indian Cinema and here is another major one from him. Words are refusing to fade from my mouth in praising this man's love towards cinema; a man who has done a multi-starrer all by himself in Dasavatharam has taken the backseat in Unnaipol Oruvan. The reason for my awe is that it is just not Mohanlal who shines in this multi-starrer but there is Ganesh, there is Sethuraman who match the veterans scene to scene. Never seen such a scene in Tamil cinema !!!

I would not like to write a review of this movie but just elaborate on the movie's highs. Of course, absolutely there are no lows in the movie.

1. Kamal's passion for good cinema - goes to the extent of not getting a song played even as the end credits roll (which helps the mood of the film to stay on), albeit his daughter being the composer, requires great guts. I was expecting Vaaname ellai song at the end but it was not to be... What better example can one give for this man's love towards his work?

2. Mohanlal - He has shown what master class is through his performance and also what great actors are made of. Makes you yearn for more; the dignity of a police officer,
the body language which will make you salute him as if he is a real police COMMISSIONER !!! Simply superb! His interactions with each of the characters are noteworthy. Be it the clash with Lakshmi, or the command over his assistants or interacting with the reporter or speaking with the unknown man. A royal salute to Mohanlal!!! And not to forget the dialogue delivery and the punch dialogues which are few but pack a definite punch. One can go listing them

3. Ganesh Venkatram- Often there is battle regarding who is the next big star among the younger star and everyone wishes and tries to be one. But honestly- this one performance from this guy will speak volumes of his caliber and dedication. His eyes, body language alone are a proof of his acting. And this role can be easily compared to Suriya's Anbuchelvan of Kaakka Kaakka Watch out for the next big gun Ganesh Venkatram.

4. Sethuraman- I did not even notice his name till the credits but this boy’s style simply refuses to go out of the memory. The way he completes a task before even Mohanlal assigns and the spark in his eyes. To crown it all, the way he responds when Mohanlal queries about whether he has any fears in taking up this particular task because he could risk his life, is worth a royal salute.

More often than not, we read and hear about police not being sincere and being negligible towards public. But these three made me SALUTE the police force. I wish all the POLICEMEN in the country had the same dedication and pride regarding their job as this man. Not many movies show policemen in good light and this movie did and how!

5. Screenplay and Dialogues - The screenplay flies at the speed of a missile and when the movie does end- you keep wishing for more.., Dialogues as in all Kamal movies are spot on and make you laugh, cry, think, applaud and what not. The CM's voice specially is like an art by Ravi Varman. Kamal can alone think like this. In fact, every single dialogue that the Commissioner speaks ring applause. Witnessed such claps after a long time for each and every scene!

6. Music and direction - Excellent underplay, just what the movie needs and nothing extra.

7. Neeraj Pandey - If I forget to mention him, it would be injustice. The brain behind the original, his thinking and making needs nothing less than a National Award. Hope he gets it next year.

Kamal, you have done Indian cinema proud for fifty years now and this is another glory in your crown... Keep us entertaining...

So guys and gals, ladies and gentlemen, what are you waiting for? Let us celebrate 50 years of this legend along with Unnaipol Oruvan.

USP of Unnaipol Oruvan

When it comes to experimentation and creating new benchmarks in Tamil cinema, trust no one but Kamal! Unnaipol Oruvan is a classic example of such newness that we have longed for.

Here are some highlights that make UPO unique:

1. It's probably the first Tamil film to beat the two-hour duration. The movie runs for one hour fifty minutes.

2. There are no songs except for a background soundtrack.

3. There are no heroines.

4. Two great stars have shared the screen without ever meeting until the last two minutes.

5. Both the director and music director are debutants. Kamal's confidence is amazing. Two debutants were given the chance to work with two legends

6. Most characters do not have their attire changed as it all happens in a day. Only Mohanlal changes after realizing that he has lost his job.

7. The dialogues are unlike any other Tamil movie and absolutely real.

What Tamil cinema needs is to break from its duration factor. I had to sit through three hours and fifteen minutes to watch Kanthaswamy. UPO proves that you can tell a gripping story in less than two hours.

Hats off to Kamal for this daring attempt! I am sure the 'pundits' of Tamil cinema would have a thousand reasons why UPO is not up to their benchmarks. It takes people like Kamal to prove them wrong.

Way to go, Kamal! You have raised the bar on what we can expect from you in future. With you, there is still hope for excellent movies from Tamil cinema.

Close on the heels of 'Mozhi' and 'Abhiyum Nanum', Radha Mohan's next directorial venture too will be produced by Prakash Raj. Titled Payanam, the movie would start its journey soon.
Says Prakash Raj, "I am currently producing three movies 'Mayilu', 'Inidhu Inidhu' and 'Payanam'. Mayilu is nearing completion while Inidhu Inidhu, a remake of Telugu hit Happy Days is fast shaping up. The shoot of Payanam, to be directed by Radha Mohan, will start soon."
